Discord.js Handler
A reusable foundation for commands, events, and bot workflows.
Based on the public README, package.json, and index.js. Historical project using Discord.js v13; no live-service or current-compatibility claims.
The problem behind the project.
As a bot grows, putting commands and event logic into one file makes it harder to extend. A reusable handler gives each kind of behavior a defined place.
What I built.
A JavaScript bot template that organizes message commands, slash commands, and events into dedicated handlers.
- Created the public handler template and its setup documentation.
- Separated command, slash-command, and event loading into distinct handlers.
- Initialized command, alias, event, and cooldown collections in a client subclass.
- Connected database initialization, logging, utilities, and button pagination.
How the pieces connect.
Separate handlers
The entry point constructs CommandHandler, SlashHandler, and EventHandler with their own directories. New behavior has a predictable home.
A shared client context
A Discord client subclass owns collections and utilities, making them available to the handlers through a common object.
Validate configuration early
The options loader checks that a configuration object, token, and prefix are present before starting the bot.
The engineering context.
Message commands, slash commands, and component interactions follow different paths. The template gives them separate structures while sharing a client and supporting utilities.
Looking forward.
This is an early, public snapshot of my bot architecture work. A modern version would revisit privileged intents, dependency versions, and startup error handling before deployment.
